Shawn AchorIf it’s Friday, it’s video day. Shawn Achor delivers today’s talk. He is a teacher at Harvard University, where he lectures on positive psychology in the most popular class at Harvard.

Shawn is also the CEO of Good Think Inc., a consulting firm which researches positive outliers – people who are well above average – to understand where human potential, success and happiness intersect. Based on his research and 12 years of experience at Harvard, he clearly and humorously describes to organizations how to increase happiness and meaning, raise success rates and profitability, and create positive transformations that ripple into more successful cultures.

This talk is very engaging and very entertaining, all the while delivering a very powerful message. In a nutshell, Shawn argues that we have the work/happiness paradigm upside down. We typically believe that if we can achieve success through our work, then we will be happy. Shawn’s talk works to dismantle this myth, showing that the exact opposite is true – that if we first find happiness, then we will indeed find our success in the world. Here is a key line from his talk:

“It’s the lens through which your brain views the world that shapes your reality. And if we can change the lens, not only can we change your happiness, we can change every single educational and business outcome at the same time.”

I encourage you to take 12 minutes out of your schedule today and view this video. You will not be disappointed. As a matter of fact, it might just make you happy. Have a great weekend.
