In the Albert’s Marketing Department (a team of three), we have been exercising regularly and really focusing on our food intake over the past 5-6 months. The results have been quite satisfying. We all look trimmer and feel great. Aside from our exercise routines playing a key role in our healthier lifestyle, monitoring how much food we eat has also been a significant factor. Portion control is perhaps the most challenging aspect of our new health regimen. We are all pretty well conditioned to eat as much food as we see before us. The bigger the plate, the likelier it is we’ll overeat.
This new infographic put out by the Centers for Disease Control, shows how portion sizes for popular items (fast food) have increased dramatically since the 1950’s. The volume on an order of french fries, for example, has grown 180 percent, while the weight of the average fast food burger has more than tripled. But the grand-prize winner is soda – which are six times larger today than they were in the 1950’s.
It’s not only that we’re eating unhealthy food, but we’re eating far more of it… and spending lots of money on thousands of studies trying to figure out why we’re such an overweight population. We don’t need more studies. We need less junk food… or at least smaller portions like we once had. That would at least be a start.
