It’s not enough any more to simply have a great selection of organic fresh produce, or to have the best quality food in your community. Don’t get me wrong, that’s a fundamental starting point that every retailer should strive for. But even with superb product and fair pricing, your customers want more. It’s simply a reflection of the times. In the digital age, we have all become “unreasonable” consumers, if you will. We expect to know everything about the product and we demand instantaneous possession of what we want. It’s just where the consumer climate has moved to. And, we can certainly debate whether or not this climate is good or bad for consumerism, but what seems clear is that it’s the new norm, and if you plan to be a retailer in the fast paced digital age where information is King… then you must crown the King to stay in the game.
Information is power! The more you provide it, the more value your shoppers will find in your product. I am very proud to claim that very few organizations within the organic community provide as much content or as many resources as Albert’s does to help educate both retailers, as well as the end consumer on organic foods and sustainability. As a matter of fact, no wholesale distributor even comes close.
But this piece isn’t about tooting our horn; it’s about making sure that you are aware of the resources we provide and are taking advantage of the training, educational, merchandising, and marketing opportunities they provide. Albert’s Organics monthly video series is entitled Beneath the Soil. These monthly videos will cover questions from you, our customers, and discuss them in a relaxed video conversation. As with all the content we provide, we are confident that you will find this tool both helpful and enjoyable.
The Organic College – the second in our series of educational outreaches, following the highly successful and award winning Organic Produce College. The Organic College provides extensive information on the organic industry including farming, food handling, manufacturing, as well as the art of retailing. The College is a compilation of 15 lessons covering topics ranging from understanding organic certification to learning about genetically modified foods, and much more.
The Albert’s Organics “Organic Produce College” is a series specifically aimed at produce buyers, merchandisers, produce associates and managers, as well as store managers and owners. Our program focuses on the unique needs of organic produce operations and merchandising. Within our program, you will find twenty brief lessons that reflect much of what we have learned over the past 30 years about retailing organic produce successfully and profitably.
The Meat College is the definitive guide to everything you need to know about Organic & Natural Meat. This course walks you through all aspects of the rules, regulations, and knowledge base involved in retailing organic and natural meats.
Organic Produce Handbook:
The Organic Produce Handbook is the definitive manual on the care, handling, and marketing of organic fresh produce. We feel like this one is a must for any produce department. It can used as an excellent training tool, whether it’s for a new manager who already has produce experience, or for an associate who is just beginning in the field. The beauty with this manual is that you can download it, keep it handy on your computer for regular reference, or print out as many copies as you like for everyone in your department. The handbook covers 23 topics and we hope that it serves as a useful tool as you continue this amazing journey of working with organic fresh foods.
